Post Office Cafe Queenstown

I like bird seed slices... but this one isn't particularly great

I love Friands but not this one... This one needed the butter that came with it...

I heard this cafe has the reputation of having the best coffee. I don't know which type of coffee though - flat white, mochacino or long black. I have been here several times as they are one of the few cafes offering free wifi. Post office cafes offer 30 minutes free wifi via the super slow and almost useless HQwifi network.

Ballarat Street  Queenstown 9348, New Zealand
(03) 442 8238

The price of coffee and muffins (pastries etc) are slightly more expensive than other local cafes. The taste is not significantly better. It's simply not better. It's comparable. However, when you weigh price and taste, you might want to go to other cafes. Patagonia Queenstown would be a good choice but only for a chocolate drink.

Cafe LaVina, Queenstown

Relaxed environment. Coffee is the same as other cafes, nothing distinctive. I really didn't like this mint flavored slice but I can't have too much sweet and fatty foods... I just enjoyed the settings a little bit.

Joe's Garage, Queenstown

This is a local favorite. Ask for their specials and free wifi access.

Usually, they have coffee and cake combo for $6.

I personally prefer the carrot cake and chocolate date cake.

The ambiance is casual and some wait staff are quite friendly. If you do not have health problems, try their famous sausages and mash combos.

They have really good coffee!

Tin Goose Cafe, Queenstown

Tin Goose Cafe is tucked in an almost unnoticeable location in Frankton, Queenstown. After trying the coffee and muffins once, we came back over and over.

This cafe is reasonably priced. A lot of locals seem to frequent it. The muffins are good - very tasty and moist unlike most cafes where muffins are dry and grainy.

The ambiance is cosy enough and business travelers like myself would find some time to concentrate on important emails. I would definitely visit this cafe if it would offer free wifi - possibly stay longer and order more.

It has a lot of parking space at the back. This cafe is worth trying.

J's on Glenda Drive, Queenstown

We've discovered a new cafe in Queenstown, in Glenda Drive.
Glenda Drive is Queenstown's industrial area where we got our car fixed.

This cafe - J's on Glenda - has a nice outlook - even on a cloudy day.

Coffee is quiet nice and we had a little cookie as well. $4.50 for a mochacino.

For all those wondering if coffee is good for you... you might be interested in this article:
Coffee’s unhealthy reputation stems partly from older research linking coffee to an increased risk of heart disease and pancreatic cancer - but without accounting for the effects of any cigarettes which might have been smoked with the coffee. Newer studies following tens of thousands of people over many years, have found coffee drinkers have no greater risk of heart disease or stroke – and appear to have a slightly lower risk. Overall, research shows no extra risk for cancer either, Davis says – but a lower risk for Parkinson’s disease. Still, caffeine has been linked to a higher risk of miscarriage, although up to 200mg of caffeine in pregnancy daily (one or two cups) is generally considered safe. Moderation makes sense too – more than three cups daily is linked to bone fractures in women who get too little calcium.

Yamaha Cafe, Queenstown New Zealand

You might not know this but there's actually a motor bike shop in Glenda Drive, Lower Shotover. There's also a cafe. They sell a few scones, some wraps and muffins, ginger bars. Pretty nice furniture, big TV. It's not a cosy one. It's probably somewhere you'd go if you need some breakfast and you work in the area. The coffee is priced like other coffee shops in Queenstown. For a mochacino and a long black, total bill was $8.

Not a place that you would visit without any other business in the area though. However, its market are the business owners and people who work in the area - it's the industrial section of Queenstown.

Mochacino was pretty good... but I would just like to have a brewed black coffee and this one isn't brewed...

Becoming Vegetarian

Here's a recent photo of a cherry picking session I had in Cromwell, Otago. We bought more than just cherries. We bought an entire bucket of plums and apricots.

Yes I have tried to be healthier in the past year. I have gained a great result. I have lost almost 20 kg. It is a life changing experience.

I have also been relaxed about my diet lately. I figured I can eat foods I used to love... It is good that today,I read this article about cancer. This is a poignant and stark reminder that being healthy is a life long commitment.

Sure I do not have a real scientific evidence that this is real. However, the fundamentals are strong. Eat vegetables and fish!

LATEST CANCER INFORMATION

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY …

[Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins ]

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to STARVE the cancer cells by not feeding it with foods it needs to multiple.

What cancer cells feed on:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Note: Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells will starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes t o nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.

To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water--best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines will become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.

Anger, unforgiving and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

Comfort Food

This is a good meal for winter -- comfort food!
This is actually what Australians call - peasant food... Why?
Well it's because beef mince is only $5 for 2 people.
Ingredients for this meal are:
1. minced beef
2. carrots
3. green peas
4. onion
5. pepper, salt
6. oyster sauce
7. 4 tbsp of water and 2 tbsp of flour to make the sauce thicker

I matched it with some basmati rice.
My Aussie loved it :-)

McCafe $5 coffee and cake deal

Mc Cafe offers $5 for coffee (regular size) and any cake.
Pretty cheap! Free wifi and no pressure how long you'd stay.
McDonald's Queenstown has a fantastic location at Frankton. Great view of the mountains and you get to walk along a beautiful lake on your way.

The coffee is pretty good - this is a mochaccino. I probably would have a plain coffee next time.

The carrot, walnut muffin is nice. That's the only nice muffin though and it's a terrible 471 calories, with 36g sugar/carbs and 28g fat. :-( Not a good decision.

The bigger cup is $5.5 for a coffee so you have to pay a dollar to "supersize" your drink.

I visit Mc Cafe regularly when I need a break from working. Good value. Just need to choose the meal.

My First Attempt at Sushi

It's terribly hard to roll the Sushi the right away. I need a lot of practice. I loved the meal! Very healthy and filling. However, I have a sneaking feeling I will starve in Japan. I ate about 12 pieces and was still hungry.

Ingredients:
1. Fresh New Zealand Salmon
2. Cucumber
3.Spinash leaves and salad greens
4. Red ginger
5. Celery
6. Rice (I used wrong rice because I only had basmati variety today)
7. Red Capsicum
8. Mayonaise

Of course I have Japanese soy sauce and wasabi :-)

Coffee Club at the Remarkables Shopping Center

Coffee at The Coffee Club is slightly more expensive.
The apple pie was also tid bit pricier - 30c at least.

However, I love exploring new cafes and this cafe is a joy as well. I enjoyed the apple pie so much!
I loved the hot sun and cool breeze as always. This little cafe is actually a franchise ... so you can expect the same type of quality and menu everywhere else. It's an Australian coffee chain. Yes they know their business.

I like it a lot and would go more frequently if it were a bit cheaper. :-)
