Tamaraw Beach Resort, Puerto Galera, Mindoro
Tapsilog Breakfast, Tamaraw Beach Resort, Puerto Galera |
Tamaraw Beach Resort is a pleasant resort for a couple of days in Puerto Galera, Mindoro.
Advantages:
1. Pleasant during non-peak season
2. The bathrooms are clean - from deluxe rooms up
3. Sheets are clean, rooms are tidy
4. Good facilities, free wifi
5. Beach is clean in the morning but around lunch time, the garbage becomes visible on the beach...
Disadvantages
1. Overpriced meals
2. Poor staff customer service
3. Several times we had to wait on staff, they lost power. They won't even tell you if the electricity is backed up already.
Will I visit Tamaraw again? Most likely... but only on non-peak season. If it's peak season, it'll be crowded and overpriced.

Cafe de Lipa, Lipa City, Batangas
This is how Cafe de Lipa looks inside. As you can see, I work here when I am in the Philippines.
Cafe de Lipa is located very near Robinsons Lipa City. Even if Lipa already has a Starbucks... I still prefer Cafe de Lipa branch near Robinsons for the following reasons:
1. The internet connection is fast... Management knows their competitive advantage. When many people turn up to work (with wifi), they increased the internet capacity.
2. The menu has good selection of coffee concoctions. I love the Pacman Drink - cliche name but I love the taste. I think it's kapeng barako with mocha which is strong and chocolatey but no sugar is added. The food though is disappointing... they can improve on the food (in terms of selection) but I only need a good cup of coffee so I am happy. Plus, the price is way more reasonable than the sugar and fat loaded Starbucks. Sorry Starbucks, but having been to real and authentic cafes, I think I would only visit Starbucks if I do NOT want coffee and want to have a sugar treat.
3. The toilet is a screaming requirement since I spend more than 2 hrs in the cafe. Their toilet is not as clean as I would like (in comparison with the western cafes I visit) but their toilet is bearable and comparatively better and cleaner than regular places and fast food stores in Philippines.
They do have big tiles which is my weird requirement.
I think Cafe de Lipa is one of the nicest places / cafe businesses ever invented by the local people here in Lipa. So congratulations! Job well done and I will always visit.

Partyland San Fernando Pampanga
Partyland - Reasonably priced at Php 225 - All you can eat
Partyland actually is very similar to Cabalen.
There are about 10 dishes: fried hito, lumpiang shanghai, barbequed chicken, shrimps etc. It's located along the San Fernando Highway.
The meals are good for Filipino cuisine. There are great deserts like halo halo, leche flan, sweet ube, cakes etc - almost all sweets that Filipinos love.
There are good vegetable dishes as well.
The only problem is that the venue is already quite old. The aircon doesn't really cool down the place and Pampanga is hellishly hot and humid.
I haven't tried their bathroom but I dare not enter. So would I come back to this place again? Not really because I am health conscious. But it is worth a try and if you only eat selectively and steer away from the lechons and the chicharons, you'd be happy. Sweet tooths would love this cheap treat... those who would like to pig out sometimes for a celebration, this place could be a good alternative.

Waiau Winery, New Plymouth
Visited Waiau winery to try another cafe restaurant winery in New Zealand. Although I am happy to see a change, Waiau winery is nothing compared to Okurukuru Winery.
Click here for the Waiau Restaurant Menu.
The place was very cosy and very casual. The prices are reasonable and can be as low as less than $20 (NZD) for their daily special.
They have a huge outdoor woodfire feature. It's a pleasant experience to enjoy your wine by the fire.
Waiau winery is located around New Plymouth area, 20 mins from the city center. It's 2.5 hours from Wanganui and about 4 hours from Auckland.
I ordered their tomato seafood special while my partner got the lamb special for mains. Mains are usually $30.
I recommend this place but it's not posh or anything. It's cosy and is a family treat...

Kamayan sa Palaisdaan
Located in Bay, Laguna, Kamayan sa Palaisdaan is not a bad idea if you want to indulge yourselves in local cuisines. It's particularly good for big groups of 5 to 10 people. The food is reasonably-priced, servings are plenty. Taste is actually good - for those who fancy the local dishes. I recommend this place.

Home Made Potato Salad
Trying to have a healthy, filling and tasty alternative, I boiled some potatoes and mixed it with salad greens. I didn't add any cream or mayo at all. The creamy look is a simple home-made dip I made:
1. 1 avocado
2. 1/2 red capsicum
3. 1/4 regular sized onion
4. salt and pepper

Great Place to Eat in Wanganui
The Oaks Restaurant and Cafe is one of the best places to eat in Wanganui
My full review of this restaurant is found here.
The price is very reasonable at $30 per person for an all-you-can eat seafood treat. The place is casual, pleasant and cozy.
It's great to enjoy an evening with family at "The Oaks". I reckon, they call this place "the oaks" due to the wonderful, towering oak trees in the street where it is located.

Healthy Asparagus
Fresh asparagus tastes like juicy chicken!
Asparagus only grows really well in spring, when temperatures are from 10 degrees C to 15 degrees C.
These asparagus are from New Zealand rural farms.
I simply stir-fried the asparagus! A bunch is only $2.
I made scrambled eggs with garlic to complete this healthy meal.

Valentine's Day Sin
Yep, today is the first day I ate pizza in New Zealand. I tried Domino's super supreme ($10.90) and spinach and onion pizza ($9.90). We used the online website to order online. The order process was seamless and quite easy. The pizzas were delivered within 30 minutes - at the right temperature. The taste was impressively good for a $20 meal.
Would I recommend this again? Well yeah, it's a good cheap meal. Seems suitable for parties and get togethers. Easy to order. But I wouldn't recommend it to be devoured monthly. A treat 2x a year would be great. And don't forget to exercise heavily after :)

Okurukuru, New Plymounth, New Zealand
My parents, partner and I were touring NZ's north Island - we visited New Plymouth. We were driving for more than 8 hours already, visiting Stratford gardens for their rhododendron festival. We were so tired and dehydrated when we saw a sign along the highway - Winery.
We decided to stop by as it was near the coast and we wanted to have a view of the New Plymouth coast. The photo above is my fish meal, $30 plus 12.5% GST. Not too bad for good meal. This photo doesn't do justice to the satisfaction and pleasant experience I had with my family in this restaurant. For more details: http://www.okurukuru.co.nz/doku.php?id=restaurant
I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. The meal is sumptuous. The setting was magnificent. The view was breathtaking.
I will do another review of this restaurant because 1 review isn't enough.

Thai Restaurant St Kilda, Melbourne
This meal wasn't a special experience. I just had to stay the night at St. Kilda, Melbourne, because that's where we were supposed to pick our campervan from Jucy. It was a painfully hot day. Yes I had migraine. St Kilda is walking distance to a Melbourne beach... which was not very impressive. It was not tidy.
Anyway, I walked along the streets to look for a hearty dinner after a long, tiring day. I found this vietnamese restaurant that I don't even remember the name. But here's the google map of where it can be found:
I liked the flavor of the meal I had: seafood rice noodle. However, it wasn't spicy enough, a disappointment for a Thai food. The pricing is actually reasonable and there are a lot of customers for a tiny space. This place is nothing special though and only recommended if you are after a quick, asian meal. It's not fancy but the flavor is good enough...and best of all, the serving size is big enough to fill you up but not too big to give you a headache.

Best Muffin in Wanganui
The Orange Cafe is my favorite cafe in Wanganui. Their pricing is very reasonable and the serving size is hearty. However, other than the good meals, great drinks and reasonable price, I go to this cafe because it has free internet. It's perfect for visiting tourists who need to check their email on their laptops.I usually order short mocha ($3.5) and a vegetable muffin - spinach, onion and bluecheese (I think it's $4). The have a decent toilet, a nice bar inside the cafe, high ceilings, lovely interior design, comfortable seats and more friendly staff recently.

Wanganui, New Zealand is located 2 hours north of Wellington.

Element Cafe, Wanganui
Quaint, beautiful cafe located at Victoria, Ave, Wanganui, New Zealand
I love the cafes in Wanganui!
Cafe mocha is NZD$3.50 to NZD$4
Big muffin is NZD$4
Quite pricey but the environment is just priceless.
I am a regular customer of cafes! I visit NZ local cafes regularly to relax while working and enjoy the experience.

Update on Restaurants Reviews
I have stopped writing reviews on fast foods and local restaurants because I made a conscious choice to be healthy. I now cook most of my food and I spend at least $50 to $80 on buying groceries per week (1 person).
However, there are still times that I am tempted and I am lazy... above is Burger King, Wanganui, New Zealand. The best feature of this Burger King is L&P - a local drink that's very popular in NZ. The restaurant is of course neat and clean, considering NZ is a first world country. The food is 30% more expensive than the Philippines' Burger King.
However, since the food is junk and fatty... the answer to "would I eat there again?" is "as much as possible, NO".
The best value only happens in Summer - where BK serves its summer stunner. You get small fries, regular sized drinks, whopper jr and a sundae for NZD$5.50
